Maine Man Accused of Shaking Baby to Plead Guilty

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ A Maine man accused of violently shaking his baby daughter, leaving her blind and severely injured, is planning to plead guilty.

Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said Kevin Peaslee is expected to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court on Friday to plead guilty to aggravated assault.

State officials say Peaslee's daughter suffered severe brain injuries in December after he shook her while her mother was at work. She's a spastic quadriplegic, cannot see or hear, and must be fed through a tube.

Maloney said the attorney general's office could upgrade the charges against Peaslee if the child dies.

The state supreme court dismissed the mother's appeal of a court-approved do-not-resuscitate decision last month after the state has agreed to abide by the mother's wishes.
