PORTLAND, Maine - Former top Maine drug prosecutor James Cameron is facing extra jail time for jumping bail while awaiting an appeal on child pornography charges.
In an order issued last Friday by U.S. District Court Chief Judge John Woodcock, Cameron faces 24 to 30 years in prison.
One of the prosecutors in the case, Assistant U.S. Attorney Don Clark, says Cameron was initially sentenced to 16 years. "And now Mr Cameron faces an even higher sentencing range because of his flight," Clark says.
James Cameron was convicted in 2010 for possessing, sending, and receiving child pornography. He was released from a five-month stint at federal prison while awaiting an appeal. But when seven of 13 of his convictions were upheld, Cameron snipped off an electronic monitoring device and skipped town. He was found in New Mexico in 2012.
