Maine Man Faces up to 10 Years in Target Practice Case

BANGOR, Maine - A 35-year-old Caribou, Maine, man faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal charge of unlawful possession of a firearm that he used for target practice.

Federal prosecutors say George LaCasse pleaded guilty to the charge in U.S. District Court on Thursday. Court records say LaCasse arranged another person to purchase him a 9mm pistol at a store in Presque Isle. Federal agents later recovered 9mm casings and other evidence that LaCasse had used the firearm for target practice.

Prosecutors say laws prohibited LaCasse from using firearms because he had felony convictions in Massachusetts in 2009. LaCasse, who also faces a $250,000 fine, awaits sentencing.
