Parents: Shooting Spree Began When Daughter Reported Assault

By Alanna Durkin, The Associated Press
BENEDICTA, Maine - The parents of the woman allegedly kidnapped during a shooting rampage in northern Maine say the suspect was furious at their daughter for going to police after he sexually assaulted her days earlier.

Rick and Kim Irish tell The Associated Press that 35-year-old Anthony Lord had become obsessed with their 21-year-old daughter, Brittany Irish.

They say he abducted her from her Bangor home and attacked her several days before the rampage.

Rick Irish says Lord became angry when he learned that she went to police and showed up Friday at their Benedicta home, where he's accused of shooting Brittany's boyfriend and her mother. The boyfriend and a second man who was shot later died.

The AP doesn't typically identify people who say they were sexually assaulted, but Brittany Irish consented to being identified, saying she wanted the full story to be told.
