Maine Gets $1.2 Million for Brownfield Cleanup Projects

The Lincoln Mill building in Biddeford, which will benefit from EPA funding.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — The EPA says Maine will be getting an extra $1.2 million toward cleanup and redevelopment projects at contaminated brownfield sites across the state.

The announcement was made in Biddeford Wednesday morning by the EPA regional administrator for New England, Curt Spaulding.

He says $700,000 is going to the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development to fund various projects across the state.

The Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission will receive the remaining $500,000.

"This isn't about EPA, this is about communities working together to revitalize their places," Spaulding says.

The supplemental funding is part of $13.2 million being awarded nationally — nearly a third of which is going to New England.
