AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine's Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry is hoping to boost visitors to state parks this winter.
Spokesman John Bott says two ski and snowshoe trailers will make stops at state parks across northern and southern Maine to offer free equipment rentals.
"People can utilize the equipment and try out snowshoeing and cross-country skiing to see if that's something they might want to take up as a hobby," he says.
Bott says the department has a monthly calendar of events. The first event to kick off the new year is a series of free hikes on Jan. 1 at several state parks.
