PORTLAND, Maine — An autopsy has determined that Portland firefighter who died on a recreational scuba dive died of a massive heart attack.
Officials say 43-year veteran firefighter Capt. Michael Kucsma was diving with friends on Monday off shore near Tukey's Bridge when he didn't resurface. The Portland Press Herald reports that friends found him and were able to get him to a dock. His colleagues at the Portland Fire Department attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene Monday.
A funeral is planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Portland.
