Red Cross Helps Residents Driven Out by Fire

WESTBROOK, Maine — The American Red Cross says it is providing emergency housing for nearly two dozen people driven out of their homes when fire swept through a condominium complex in Westbrook.

The blaze on Wednesday night left many units at the Dolley Brook complex uninhabitable.

In all, 45 residents were displaced. The Red Cross says 20 volunteers responded and emergency lodging was being provided for 18 adults and five children. The organization says it has also provided food and emotional support for the families.

No one was hurt in the fire and the cause remains under investigation.

The owner of the company that manages the property says power has been restored to 16 undamaged units in the complex and residents who live in those units could be allowed to return on Friday.
