BRUNSWICK, Maine — The president of the Maine Technology Institute has been removed from his post.
Alan Caron, the director of Envision Maine, tells the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1mpY5O2 ) that Republican Gov. Paul LePage removed Robert Martin from his leadership position with the Brunswick organization.
The Maine Technology Institute is a state-funded organization that provides grants and loans for Maine companies to conduct research and development.
George Gervais, commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, said in a statement that Martin's departure was a personnel matter and that the absence of a president won't "impair the critical work of the organization."
Martin replaced Betsy Biemann, who resigned in 2012. She had clashed with LePage over his decision to veto a research and development bond.
