PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The city manager for Portland is resigning.
Mark Rees announced on Monday that he's resigning to pursue other professional and personal opportunities.
Portland officials said that Rees, who has served as manager of the Maine city for three years, will step down on Sept. 3.
Mayor Michael Brennan said that Rees has implemented several management changes that have boosted the city government's effectiveness.
The City Council is expected to appoint an acting city manager when it meets on Sept. 3. Officials say the search for a permanent replacement for Rees will begin immediately.
