Lewiston Police Shoot Man; AG to Investigate

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) _ The Maine attorney general's office will investigate an incident in Lewiston in which police say they shot a man after he brandished a gun.

Authorities say 21-year-old Albert Crowley did not suffer life-threatening injuries after being shot by officers Friday night in a downtown Lewiston park.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston says Crowley was hit multiple times in a barrage of gunshots that sent nearby pedestrians diving for cover.

Cpl. Michael Dumond, Officer Brian Bourgoin and Officer Zachary Provost were placed on administrative leave after the shooting incident, as is standard in such cases.

Police say the incident began when Crowley was reported to have assaulted a woman in a domestic disturbance.

It was the 10th officer-involved shooting incident in Maine this year.
