Four Dead in Caribou Mobile Home Fire

CARIBOU, Maine - A woman and three young children died this morning in a fire at a mobile home in Caribou.

State Public Safety Department officials say the children are a four-year-old boy and two-year-old twins.

Authorities say the fire at the Westgate Mobile Home Park was reported at about 7 a.m.  Investigators from the state Fire Marshal's Office are  headed to the scene to investigate the cause.

The victims were taken out of the home by Caribou firefighters. The three children were rushed to a Caribou hospital and pronounced dead there. The woman died at the scene, officials say.

Authorities say it's Caribou's deadliest fire in recent times, and comes only 19 days after a fire in Portland killed six young people at an apartment house.

State Fire Marshal Joe Thomas is urging Maine residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors, and that families review and practice fire escape plans.
