Portland's Historic Victoria Mansion Reopens

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland's historic Victoria Mansion is open for the holiday season.

The brownstone mansion is a National Historic Landmark built between 1858 and 1860 as a summer home for luxury hotel proprietor Ruggles Sylvester Morse. The building is also known as the Morse-Libby House. This week is the first full week of its season. Its "Christmas 100 Years Past" program runs until Jan. 4.

The mansion is often cited as an important example of Italianate Villa-style of architecture. New Haven, Connecticut, architect Henry Austin designed it.

The mansion is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day.
