Maine Police Heading to NY for Officer's Funeral

SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) _ Dozens of Maine police officers are going to New York for the funeral of slain Officer Rafael Ramos.

Scarborough Police Sgt. John O'Malley says at least 46 officers from two dozen agencies from across Maine will be taking a chartered bus to New York for the funeral on Saturday. He says agencies represented include Auburn, Belfast, Ellsworth, Kittery, Portland, Scarborough, Waterville and Winslow.

O'Malley, who organized the transportation, says the officers are going to show their respect for Ramos and to comfort his family and members of the NYPD.

Ramos, whose son attends Maine's Bowdoin College, was ambushed and shot to death along with Officer Wenjian Liu as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn on Dec. 20. The shooter later killed himself.
