Dry Weather Prompts Fire Warnings in Maine and Region

MONTPELIER, Vt. - The National Weather Service has issued a brush fire warning for much of Northern New England, including Maine, inland areas of Massachusetts and other sections of the Northeastern United States.

The red flag warning includes much of Maine and New Hampshire, all of Vermont, and most of New York, eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It is in effect through Monday evening.

The Weather Service says fires may spread "rapidly and uncontrollably.'' The danger is heightened by dry conditions, warm weather, low humidity and gusty winds.

Meanwhile, firefighters in New York's Hudson Valley are fighting a fire in the Shawangunk Ridge State Forest near Summitville.
