Fires Burn Hundreds of Acres in Eastern Maine

LUBEC, Maine - Officials say a fire that may have been intentionally set in the eastern Maine town of Lubec has spread across some 200- to 300-hundred acres, and is heading toward the ocean.

Meanwhile, a Red Flag Warning for critical fire danger remains in effect across the state of Maine. Maine Forest Service spokesman Kent Nelson says it looks like rangers are making some headway with the Lubec blaze.

"And they probably will be fighting this fire for at least another day, but, hopefully, as the winds die down and the temperatures cool this evening, they should be able to get close to containment."

Nelson says no structures are threatened.
