Uncle of Suspected Shooter Says Nephew "Snapped"

BENEDICTA, Maine (AP) _ The uncle of the suspect in a shooting rampage across several northern Maine communities that left two dead says his nephew showed no emotion when he surrendered.

Thirty-five-year-old Anthony Lord was arrested at the Houlton home of his uncle, Carl Lord. Jr., on Friday. Police say Anthony Lord had beaten a man and stole his pickup truck before shooting five people, two of them fatally.

Carl Lord Jr. said Saturday that when his nephew arrived at the home he unloaded the bullets from his gun into a vegetable garden and dropped the weapon. He says the suspect said nothing until he was being taken away by police, when he turned to his mother and said he loved her.

The uncle said Lord ``seemed like the type of kid that just snapped.''
