Police: Man Who OD'd With Child in Car Faces Charges

PORTLAND, Maine - Portland police say a motorist who overdosed with a 5-year-old in the car has been cited for driving to endanger and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Sgt. James Sweatt says 37-year-old Peter Coffin of Portland is due in District Court next month after being issued two criminal summonses. Police say emergency responders revived Coffin by administering Narcan, a medication used to reverse the effects of opioids.

Emergency responders were alerted Sunday evening when a car backed into the sidewalk in front of a pub. Witnesses said it appeared the driver wasn't breathing.

It was unknown if Coffin has an attorney. A phone number for Coffin couldn't be located.
