MDI Biological Laboratory President to Step Down After Term

BAR HARBOR, Maine - The president of MDI Biological Laboratory says he will step down from the post in July 2018, when his term ends.

The biological laboratory is located on Mount Desert Island and it is an independent biomedical research institution focused on human health. Kevin Strange has served as its president for seven years.

MDI board chairman Peter Allen says Strange's efforts to focus on the biology of aging and regeneration has lifted the laboratory's profile in the international science scene. The laboratory says in a statement that Strange's work has centered on identifying the molecular mechanisms that underlie aging and age-related diseases like heart disease and Alzheimer's disease.

Strange will keep serving as director of the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence program at the lab and manage his own research laboratory.
