Chellie Pingree: House Should Intervene On Postal Service's Problems

The House of Representatives will meet in an unusual Saturday session to address problems at the U.S. Postal Service, which U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine says involve more than just finances.

Pingree says the ongoing reorganization of the Postal Service is slowing down deliveries and causing real problems for businesses and for veterans who get most of their prescription drugs by mail. She says the House could craft a measure to intervene.

“It’s much more about the language to stop this internal reorganization of the Post Office that appears to be dedicated to keeping people from getting efficient mail service,” she says.

Pingree says the Postal Service also needs additional federal funding to address the affect of COVID-19 on its facilities and workers. She is hopeful the Senate will come back from recess next week to consider whatever measure the House passes this weekend.
