Cain Announces Another Run for Maine's 2nd District Seat

AUGUSTA, Maine - Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin may have a familiar opponent when he runs for re-election next year.

Just four months after her loss to Poliquin, Democrat Emily Cain says she's running again to represent Maine's 2nd District.

Poliquin defeated Cain by roughly 5 percentage points in November.

"I'm running for Congress because Maine offered tremendous opportunities to my family and I want to make sure those same options are there for everyone in the 2nd District," Cain said, in a statement e-mailed to supporters and the media. "But instead of helping workers and the middle class, this new Congress is still playing the same old political games."

Cain served for 10 years in both the Maine House and Senate, where she held key positions on the Appropriations and Government Oversight Committees.

In a statement, meantime, Congressman Bruce Poliquin's top political consultant said Maine people had just rejected Cain's negative, attack-based campaign.

"With this early announcement," said Brent Littlefield, "it is clear Cain's Washington advisers are quite desperate to tap into her donors. They should hold onto their purses and wallets."
