WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine is praising the Air National Guard decision to expand the use of dual-use airports such as Bangor International Airport, where facilities and costs of operation are shared between the military and the civilian airport operators.
"The Air Force National Guard's proposed budget includes $7.2 million to refurbish and increase the space for the Guard wing's fire and rescue facility in Bangor," she says.
Air Force Brigadier General Timothy Green told Collins during a meeting of the Senate Appropriations Committee that the Air Force is pursuing use of more dual-use airports across the country, modeled on the successful cooperation at BIA. Collins says that's a good deal for the taxpayers at both levels of government.
