A new poll from Colby College shows that while President Trump has received mixed grades for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, Maine Gov. Janet Mills’ policies have garnered support.
In a survey of 888 likely Maine voters, respondents were asked about the pandemic, its impact on them and what they thought about Gov. Mills’ response.
Colby government professor Dan Shea says the poll shows strong support for the approach Mills has take to restart the economy.
“We find that about 10% think that she has been too fast, about 20 - 25%, think she has been too slow," Shea says. "But the rest - over 60% - think that the governor’s pace in opening the economy, in opening businesses and so forth, is about right.”
More than two-thirds of the poll respondents said government should decide the rules guiding the use of face masks, and 36% said they know someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus. More than three-quarters said the pandemic is a serious economic problem for the country.
