The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Maine has exceeded 11,000.
The Maine CDC reported 228 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total over the course of the pandemic to 11,027, and an additional death, bringing the total number of people who have died to 190. State CDC director Dr. Nirav Shah says hospitalizations are also up.
“One-hundred and five people are hospitalized with COVID-19 this week alone,” he says.
Forty-six of those people are in intensive care, and 11 are on ventilators.
The list of COVID-19 outbreaks being investigated by the Maine CDC is growing. Shah on Wednesday announced nearly a dozen new outbreaks identified over the past couple of days. They include Camire School of Dance in Auburn, Somerset Primary Care in Skowhegan and the business office at Central Maine Medical Center.
“We do not believe any of the patient care units at CMMC are involved. That is the business office,” he says.
There are also outbreaks at several schools, including Bangor, Brewer and South Portland high schools, Auburn Middle School and Foxcroft Academy.
