A long-time news anchor at Portland's CBS affiliate is stepping down. Channel 13 WGME's Kim Block says she's leaving her job of 39 years so she can focus on healing from a traumatic brain injury.In a statement posted online, Block says a little over a year ago she slipped on her icy driveway and hit her head. By the next day, she says, she experienced vertigo, nausea, pounding headaches, and sensitivity to light and noise. She couldn't drive, cook, read, sort the mail, or even fold socks.

After more than a year of intensive therapy, Block says she's made progress but her recovery is taking longer than expected.
Block will give a live farewell at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. But she says the door is open for a new chapter at WGME someday, and that if she can, she'll find a way to get back on the air.
