Maine Wildlife Officials Warn Of Bear Attacking Livestock, Beehives

JAY, Maine - A black bear has attacked ten goats, eight of whom died, and destroyed three beehives in homes across southern Maine. The state's Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said Monday that ten residents in Franklin and Kennebec counties have made complaints about a bear roaming the area. Agency spokesperson Mark Latti says the bear has been wandering for over three weeks and appears to be alone.

The agency recommends residents remove anything that could attract bears. Two bear traps have been set. If it is caught, the bear will be moved north away from residences and livestock.
