HAMPDEN, Maine - Maine animal welfare officials say nearly 30 animals were seized from a home. The owner of the home was working to create a licensed breeding kennel, but a search warrant was issued after multiple violations were found.
The animals were taken Tuesday.
Twenty-five dogs, including eight puppies, and one cat were taken to animal shelters. Many of the dogs were Great Danes, which aren't acclimated to live in cold weather because of their thin coats. One horse was also surrendered
All of the animals will be evaluated and treated. They aren't currently available for adoption because of the ongoing investigation.
