Trooper Saves Speeding Man from Overdose

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ A Maine State Police trooper has saved a man from a heroin overdose during a traffic stop.

Trooper Doug Cropper had pulled the man over for speeding on Interstate 295 in Portland early Friday morning.

Cropper says when he went back to the man's car with the ticket he noticed that the driver was turning blue and didn't appear to be breathing.

Police say Cropper pulled the man out of the vehicle and starting performing CPR. An emergency room nurse stopped and helped him. Cropper then gave the man a drug overdose antidote, before he was taken to the hospital.

Cropper told WMTW-TV that he's grateful that he made the traffic stop and that the man thanked him. The man was issued a citation and drug charges are possible.
