UMaine System Trustees Vote to Extend Freeze Tuition

AUGUSTA, Maine -The University of Maine System's board of trustees has decided to extend a tuition freeze at public universities in the state through the 2016-17 academic year.

Next year will be the sixth in a row in which tuition is frozen. Tuition and fees at the system's flagship campus in Orono are about $10,606 per year for in-state students. Trustees had been considering the possibility of a tuition increase this year.

Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican, says he supports the tuition freeze. He says the vote means students will graduate with less debt.
