Friends of a Maine woman found dead in the basement of her apartment house have held a vigil for her as the man accused of killing her awaits a court appearance.
Police announced Thursday that 28-year-old Nicholas Lovejoy was charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Melissa Sousa. The two lived together and were parents of 8-year-old twin girls.
Sousa's friends placed flowers at the scene Friday morning.
Police said Sousa was last seen Tuesday putting her daughters onto a school bus. Sousa's boyfriend was arrested that evening on an unrelated charge. A body discovered Wednesday was later identified as hers.
Sousa's boss said Lovejoy had threatened to kill her, and that she was fearful. Lovejoy was due in court Friday afternoon; it was unknown if he had a lawyer.
