Guests: Professor Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, founding Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of New England. His areas of expertise are political theory, comparative politics, and historical sociology. His scholarship is cross-cultural and focuses on power, agency and anti-colonial resistance in North Africa, especially in modern Libya. Dr. Ahmida is currently working on two books, one about genocide in colonial Libya, one a biography of Libyan freedom fighter Omar al-Mukhtar.
Ambassador Lawrence Pope, Ambassador to Chad from 1993 to 1996 and Charge d’Affaires to Libya in the aftermath of Benghazi. At other times during his career, he was Director for Northern Gulf Affairs, Associate Director for Counter-Terrorism, and Political Advisor to General Zinni at Central Command.
