Congressman Jared Golden

A.J. Higgins
Maine Public File

First-term U.S. Rep. Jared Golden joins us to discuss his first weeks on the job representing Maine's 2nd Congressional District. We'll ask about the government shutdown, his committee assignments and first floor speech and the president's decision to declare a national emergency in order to get additional funding for a border wall.

Jared Golden grew up in Leeds, and after the Sept. 11 attacks enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served as an infantryman, deploying to Afghanistan in 2004 and Iraq in 2005-2006. When Golden returned from service, he attended Bates College. In 2011, Golden began serving as a staff member on the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. In 2014, he was first elected to represent Lewiston in the Maine House of Representatives.
