LUBEC, Maine (AP) _ Two runners from central Maine have won the Bay of Fundy International Marathon.
Ron Peck of Waterville and Lydia Kouletsis of Oakland won the Sunday marathon in Lubec. Peck, a biology professor at Colby College, finished in 3:02:10. Kouletsis, a pharmacy student at University of New England, finished in 3:24:03. Organizers say the race attracted 220 starters.
Thirty-eight-year-old Peck took the lead at 22 miles from eventual runner-up Andrew Fudge of South Weymouth, Massachusetts. Twenty-two-year-old Kouletsis was running in her first marathon.
The race's course crosses the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Bridge into Canada at six miles. Entrants included runners from 36 states, four Canadian provinces, Iceland, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.
