Maine Heating Prices Continue Decline

PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine government survey says the average statewide cash price for heating oil has dropped to its lowest level since 2008.

The governor's energy office says the average price Monday was $2.99, a drop of 4 cents from the week before. The average price of kerosene dropped 3 cents per gallon while propane held steady.

Energy officials said the dramatic decline in heating oil prices this year is nearing the magnitude of the winter of 2008-2009. Officials say they expect prices to continue to fall, though not to the same levels from that period when financial markets collapsed.

The highest price for heating oil was again found in central Maine, where prices reached $3.40. The lowest prices were in southwestern Maine, where the low mark was $2.660.
