Verso Mill Demolition to Resume as Subcontractors Get Paid

Plans to resume demolition of the former Verso Paper mill in Bucksport are moving ahead as arrangements are being made to pay subcontractors that have not been paid.

Interim Bucksport Town Manager Sue Lessard says she received an email Friday afternoon on behalf of AIM Development, the company that bought the mill. The email indicates that either demolition contractor DeNovo or AIM’s surety bonding agency will pay the subcontractors.

Lessard says the bonding agency will also be looking at options about the next contractors to retain and resume the work.

“The email indicates that this should happen fairly quickly and that a site visit is planned on Tuesday to evaluate how much work is left at the site,” she says.

Earlier this week it was learned that demolition work had come to a halt at the former mill because of financial difficulties being experienced by the demolition contractor.

“Any of these contractors that have claims should make them in accordance with whatever subcontract they had with Denovo,” Lessard says.
