The Eastern Area Agency on Aging received nearly $80,000 of pet food today.
This is the third such donation from the Humane Society of the United States and Chewy, the online pet supply retailer.
The agency will use the pet food for its Furry Friend Food Bank, which offers monthly pet supply kits to low-income older residents. The program serves 400 area residents and distributes 12,000 pounds of food a month.
Nutrition manager Kelly Adams said the donation is vital to continuing the program, which she said "keeps our consumers and their furry friends at home together, where they belong.”
