Advanced Materials for Hydrogen Energy Technologies
Advanced Materials for Hydrogen Energy Technologies
Hydrogen is regarded as the "fuel for the future" because it can provide emission-free renewable energy to replace fossil fuels in power generation, transportation, and heavy manufacturing industries. However, a sustainable hydrogen economy will require rapid improvements in three technologies - electrolyzers, storage devices, and fuel cells, which are enabled (and constrained) by advanced materials. This course will provide an understanding of the relationship between advanced materials and a green hydrogen economy, summarize the latest developments, including research at UMaine, and touch upon new opportunities on the horizon.
