Annual Maine Ax and Tool Meet A Gathering Ax Makers, Collectors and Historians
The Maine Ax and Tool Meet is hosted annually at Brant & Cochran, a local ax manufacturing business forging axes right here in South Portland. The Maine Ax and Tool organization is a not-for-profit group of interested ax collectors and history buffs who gather online and in person to swap stories, buy and sell axes and share the vibrant history of axes and forestry in Maine, once dubbed “The ax capitol of the world”.
The event will feature blacksmithing demonstrations and discussions by B&C staff and products for sale, as well as a live streamed hafting demo (at 11am) by Brandon Roost of Whiskey River Trading. Many MAT members will be tailgating their collections throughout the day, and at noon, author Michael McBride will be on hand discussing axes and his forthcoming work. Civil War era machines will be on display side by side with cutting edge 21st century advanced manufacturing processes. All interested are welcome, the event is free to the public.
