Celtic Concert & Album Release with Owen Kennedy & Seán Heely

Celtic Concert & Album Release with Owen Kennedy & Seán Heely

Champion Celtic musician Seán Heely is back in Maine to help celebrate the release of my debut album, "Oh When: Now."

On Saturday, May 20th, we'll offer a full concert in my hometown, at the Winthrop United Methodist Church at 4pm. Doors open at 3:30. We'll play tunes from the new album as well as beautiful bouzouki & fiddle duets, haunting slow airs, lively Gaelic song, mighty pipe marches, and wild twin fiddling!

Suggested donation of $15 for adults and $10 for students & seniors.

CDs will be available for purchase after the concert, along with some snacks and treats to share.

More information about the performers:
Seán Heely and Owen Kennedy met at the 2019 Acadia Traditional School of Music & Arts in Bar Harbor, Maine. Inspired by Seán’s workshops and performances at Acadia Trad and Fiddle Hell, Owen was motivated to dive into the Scottish fiddling tradition, joining Seán’s music studio in 2020. With Seán’s mentorship, Owen went on to compete and win both the 2021 Junior US National Scottish Fiddle Championship and the 2022 New England Regional Open Scottish Fiddle Competition. Since they began working together, Seán has been up to Maine to perform with Owen several times, for an October 2021 Maine Tour, with Beth Patterson for a May 2022 Tour, and with the Seán Heely Band for the 2022 Maine Highland Games. Seán holds a degree from University of South Carolina in Classical Violin Performance and was a 2019 Artist in Residence at Strathmore Music Center in Maryland. Currently based in Washington D.C, Seán performs locally and abroad with the Seán Heely Celtic Trio and The Glencoe Lads. He also frequently travels abroad as a solo artist and maintains a private teaching studio in Falls Church, VA.

Owen Kennedy is a seventeen-year-old fiddler from Maine whose love of traditional music and enthusiasm for performing has charmed audiences from San Diego to the Shetland Islands and all over New England. Owen has been playing the violin for thirteen years and performs solo as well as with the VT-based Young Tradition Touring Group, the Pineland Fiddlers, and the Maine Folque Co-op. In addition to winning the Junior US National Scottish Championship and the New England Open Scottish Fiddle Competition, Owen has recently won the Young Stars of Maine "Glenn Jenks Future in Music” Prize from Bay Chamber Music School and earned 2nd place in the highly competitive Young Tradition Festival Contest.
