The Friends of Music at St. Saviour’s presents the inaugural concert for the 2023-24 season on Saturday, September, at 4:00 pm, in the church at 41 Mount Desert Street in Bar Harbor. The concert will be performed by the ensemble Harmonie Universelle, in a program of Baroque concertos, by J. S. Bach, G. P. Telemann, and Christoph Graupner. Of particular interest will be the two concertos for a solo-ensemble of three unusual instruments: oboe d’amore, flute d’amore, and viola d’amore. These instruments were developed for their distinctive and gentle tone-colors, and became prized for their special emotional qualities in dramatic music. The soloists will be backed by a small chamber-orchestra using period-style instruments.
