Lost in Place: Saving Wall Paintings

Lost in Place: Saving Wall Paintings

For our first virtual lecture of 2023, David Ottinger, a preservation contractor with 38 years experience moving early painted walls - and complete historic structures - through out New England, will describe the delicate and complicated process of moving these walls. The presentation features images of the painted walls from the James Norton House in East Baldwin, painted by Jonathan Poor, Rufus Porter's nephew, in 1840 and removed from the home in 2011. The walls, considered Jonathan Poor's finest work, will be installed in the museum's new building to be constructed in 2023.

Free. Suggested donation: $10. Donations can be made here.

Registration is required. A Zoom link will be provided a few days before the lecture.
