Friday, June 16, 2023 marks the return of live Rockland Folk Arts concerts to Rockland's Sail Power and Steam Museum on the South End waterfront in Rockland, Maine. We couldn't be more excited! Featured performers, in Midcoast Maine for just one concert, are Australian sea-music group, 40 Degrees South. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission of $20 will help defray the performers' substantial travel expenses from Australia AND will benefit continuing music programming at the museum. Tickets are available only at the door, cash only please!

The members of 40 Degrees South have been maintaining a tradition of unaccompanied singing for more than 30 years. Based in Sydney, the group’s members include Tom Hanson, Margaret Walters, Don Belan, Chris Maltby and Jude Alexander. Their June 16 concert will include a generous helping of songs from the group's huge sea-music repertoire of traditional and trad-style songs, all seasoned with historical knowledge and a great sense of humor. The evening is likely to include sea chanties, whaling songs, forebitters, work songs, mining songs, union songs, Australian Bush ballads, songs of Australian colonial history, protest songs, humorous songs, and drinking songs, to name a few.
