Waterville 2nd Sunday Sacred Harp Singing

Waterville 2nd Sunday Sacred Harp Singing
Join us at the Waterville 2nd Sunday Sacred Harp Singing on the 2nd Sunday of the month (*see note below for schedule exceptions) at the 1st Baptist Church in Waterville, Maine. FMI contact Peter Golden at 207-332-2021, MaineShapeNoteSinging@gmail.com.
All are welcome! No experience is necessary and beginners are always warmly encouraged to join us. Tunebooks are available to use during the singing, as well as to purchase. Feel free to bring snacks to share at the break. Note that as with all Sacred Harp singings, this is a free participatory community singing, rather than a performance.
The singing is primarily from the The Sacred Harp, a shape note tunebook that has been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuging tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day. There may also some singing from the Shenandoah Harmony. Books will be available for loan or purchase.
*Note: this singing is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month. Occasionally a singing will be canceled, so if in doubt please contact Peter Golden (info above).
