How's your garden growing? An important aspect of Permaculture is obtaining a yield and becoming a successful gardener is one great way to do that. But what if you run into trouble? How to deal with insects, diseases, water management? When to harvest for peak flavor? How about planting cover crops as other crops come out of the ground? We can talk about all of this and more as we walk through no-till, sheet-mulch / hugelkultur gardens and orchards.

Most people know that museums collect objects, put on exhibits and present programs, but just how do the staff go about doing those things? Saco Museum will feature some of its oldest collections dating from the late19th century, as well as recent acquisitions, to illustrate how the secrets are unveiled. Staff will be available most weekdays to answer questions. Exhibit hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 4-8 p.m. (free admission); Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spend an hour at Old York, hearing a story highlighting New England history and culture. Afterwards enjoy a related activity or take a peek inside the historic one-room York Corner Schoolhouse.
Recommended for children ages 4 to 10. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is FREE!
Celebrate Maine’s unique wildlife and learn to be present in nature in this beautiful tale by Lynn Plourde. Following the story, we’ll have a visit from our friends at White Pine Programs to learn about the plants and animals of Maine.

Waterville Creates, Waterville Public Library, and the Colby College Museum of Art join forces to offer dynamic, creative summer programming and provide arts experiences for all. Each Thursday participants at Art in the Park can listen as a book is read aloud and create artwork based on that book or community theme. Art in the Park is made possible by Kennebec Savings Bank, City of Waterville, and Central Maine Newspapers.

Portland’s First Friday Art Walk is a free self-guided tour of art galleries, art studios, museums, and alternative art venues on the first Friday of every month from 5-8pm. Its mission is to open the doors of Portland’s visual arts community by joining together and introducing a wider audience to the unique vitality of the artists and venues of Portland, promoting interest with non-exclusivity and easy-access, thereby strengthening the arts and community through diversity and celebration.
Belfast Flying Shoes presents the First Friday Community Dance and Contra Dance Series. 6:00 warm-up session for the All Comers Band, led by Willy Clemetson & Benjamin Foss and open to all musicians, instruments, and skill levels. Tune list available on the website. 6:30 Community Dance (Chrissy Fowler & Lisa Newcomb calling with music by the All Comers Band.) 8:00 Contra Dance with a guest caller & musicians (see calendar for details).
At the Fellowship Hall of the First Church in Belfast, UCC, 8 Court St, Belfast ME. Community Dance admission is $1 kids & $2 adults; Contra Dance admission is $15-20 (and includes admission to the Community Dance.) Volunteers who commit in advance get free admission.
