Community Calendar

Calling musicians of all levels! Please come and join us on the second Saturday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 pm for a community - based open mic session. All levels and musical genres are welcome as are individuals, duos, groups, whatever. This will be an all - acoustic session but there will be a small Fishman amplifier and microphone available on an as needed basis.

Our open mic group shall endeavor to provide a fun and judgement free opportunity to share our musical offerings with others. Original compositions as well as covers are welcomed. Please pass the word to friends and let's create a community where we can gather to play, sing, laugh, learn and get to know our neighbors. The event shall be by donation ($2 suggested) with all proceeds going to The Gatherings.

Join your neighbors and meet new friends at the Surry Contra Dance!

Community Dance 6pm - 7pm
This fun and friendly dance for all ages is led by Bagaduce Music with support by the Open Band (open to all musicians, instruments & skill levels). Show up 15 minutes early to get situated if you’d like to play with us! There's no admission charge for the community dance, but donations are very welcome.

Contra Dance 7pm - 10pm
Contra dance is easy to learn since all dances are taught. Everyone is welcome to dance, regardless of age or dancing ability! There's no need to bring a partner either!
The cost is sliding scale, $15-$25 suggested, under 18s pay 1/2 their age. This dance helps support the Arbutus Grange.

Scottish Country Dance is the ballroom dance of Scotland, done in longwise sets of several couples. We meet weekly to learn and enjoy the dances. All dances are taught. We recommend soft soled, flexible shoes. Bring a water bottle. There is a beginner/preview session at 5 p.m. by request. Note, we do not dance during the month of December.

Spirituals, hymns, hollers and work songs were sung either to express a yearning for a better life or gratitude for already having one. Guitarist Walter Parks, longtime sideman to Woodstock legend Richie Havens, is fascinated by this historical music’s universal applicability and power and appears tonight with his trio including Ada Dyer, currently out on tour with Bruce Springsteen (November 2025). Tonight, music presented in a swampy style, borrowing from blues, Southern Rock and gospel. An unforgettable midwinter concert, guaranteed to transport the audience from the icy shores of Maine!

Come see Lori's studio and her newest art...some encaustic (pigmented beeswax) paintings as well as lots of new acrylics. Her paintings are an exploration of the magic of color and movement. She hopes her work reflects a deep respect for our planet and it's beauty and the significance of the connection between all living things, including us!! There will be prints and a sale wall as well. Live jazz guitar by Tony Gaboury and friends! Yummy snacks! Mark your calendars now!

On the evening of February 27th, 2026, OUT Maine will host the third annual Rainbow Gala & Dance Party in its home base of Rockland, Maine. The gala is open to anyone 21 years of age and older, and the event directly benefits OUT Maine’s annual LGBTQIA2S+ youth retreat Rainbow Ball Weekend. The event is described as a “queer prom for grownups,” with the dress code being simply, “what did you really want to wear to prom?” There will be music by the Right Track (voted "Best of the Best!), red carpet photos by Hi Moments, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar. This year's event also has a secret theme that will be shared with ticket holders. Tickets can be purchased online at www.outmaine.org/gala.
