Discover winter birds on the Schoodic Peninsula!Embrace the magic of winter on the Schoodic Peninsula with a free, self-guided birding adventure open to all ages and experience-levels on Saturday, January 17th from 8am to 12pm.
This event is a great way to explore Acadia’s winter wildlife at your own pace. Meet us at Schoodic Institute’s Gatehouse for warm drinks, snacks, and fun activities before walking the loop road to the point.

Located at the entrance to Schoodic Institute’s campus in Winter Harbor, ME, swing by the gatehouse first to meet the team, enjoy refreshments and games, then explore the area.
All ages and experience levels are welcome—beginners encouraged!
Please note: heated and accessible bathrooms will be located at the gatehouse. Parking on the Schoodic Institute campus can be found near Rockefeller Hall and at the North Lot (there will be directional signs to help point you in the right direction). If you have mobility issues, there will be parking spots available near the gatehouse.

Join us for a Dinosaur Workshop hosted by Mad Science at the Lewiston Public Library on Saturday, January 17th at 11AM in Callahan Hall.
In this Dinosaur Workshop kids will examine fossil casts and explore the differences in the teeth of herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs. Every paleontologist-in-training will then get to dig in and experience a mini dinosaur excavation and make a cast of a dinosaur tooth to take home.
This workshop has 20 spots available for kids and registration is required.

Know an 8th grader who learns best by doing? Our Prospective Student Visiting Day on January 21st is the perfect chance to explore Baxter Academy! This half-day campus experience shows families what makes our STEAM-focused, tuition-free public high school different.
Coastal economies in the Gulf of Maine are entering a phase of accelerated opportunity while undergoing a multitude of social and environmental changes.
During this lecture, a GMRI expert and a key collaborator on this initiative will present how we are strengthening the blue economy and stewarding working waterfronts by supporting workforce development, investment, and waterfront access. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
Doors will open at 5:30 pm with complimentary refreshments available, and the program will begin at 6:00 pm. Free parking is available for all registered attendees in the lot adjacent to our building.
This event will feature our Chief Community Officer, Jonathan Labaree, and Graham McKay, Executive Director, Lowell's Boat Shop.

The inaugural Wiscasset edition of Ocean on Tap is Friday January 23, 6pm, at Aekeir Brewing in Wiscasset. Join Dr. Alaina Weinheimer, of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, who will be speaking about a revolutionary technology that led to the unexpected discovery of an ‘invisible’ group of viruses here in the Damariscotta River.
Ocean on Tap is an informal, ocean-centric speaker series organized by researchers from Bigelow Laboratory and hosted by Footbridge Brewery in Boothbay Harbor and Aekeir Brewing in Wiscasset. Our goal is to bring people of the community together over the fascinating world of the ocean. At these events, speakers will share their corner of expertise in the ocean, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions.
