Maine Public is pleased to be a media sponsor of Maine State Music Theatre’s production of Tootsie.
Tootsie is a hilarious and heartwarming musical comedy about actor Michael Dorsey, who disguises himself as a woman, Dorothy Michaels, to land a role in a Broadway show.
Based on the iconic Dustin Hoffman film of the same name, Tootsie explores themes of identity, gender roles, and the challenges of navigating personal and professional life. The show delivers laughter and insight. As Michael’s new persona takes on a life of her own, he learns valuable lessons about honesty, love, and self-acceptance.
Maine State Music Theatre’s Tootsie will be performed at the Pickard Theater in Brunswick from June 25th through July 12th.

Acadia National Park, in collaboration with Friends of Acadia and Schoodic Institute, invites tenacious hikers to bring bags of soil to the summits of Penobscot and Sargent Mountains. You’ll get to choose how much soil you’ll carry – carrying as little as five pounds (about the size of a large freezer ziplock bag) is a huge help! This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.

From July 3 through August 28, the Rockport Public Library will host a show of works by abstract artist Noah Stitt. The exhibit, “Heavy Light,” features paintings and sculpture exploring play, structure, and the medium of paint.
“Using humor, subtlety, and suspension, my work explores the boundary between the objective and subjective image,” says Stitt. “Scenes are set in which the viewer is left to decide for themselves how to interpret the slippage between the two. With a heavy material presence, these objects and images lend themselves to a narrative reading. I think of them as 'narrative abstractions’."
Noah Stitt holds an MFA in Studio Art from Hunter College, CUNY, where he also taught; a BFA from Montana State University (also in Studio Art); and participated in the Early College Program at Maine College of Art. He has worked at the Coastal Maine Art Workshops, High Street Gallery, and in an ice studio in Queens, New York. Among other venues, his work has been shown at Hunter College Gallery and online at Hauser & Wirth. After many years living in various parts of the country, Stitt now resides in his home state of Maine.
