Longtime friends and musical collaborators Molly Gebrian (viola) and Danny Holt (piano) are known for their dynamic performances and their passion for shining a spotlight on lesser-known classical composers. Their recent album, Trailblazers, features Gebrian’s transcriptions of rarely heard cello sonatas by three female composers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On Friday, December 12th at 5:30pm, Danny Holt and Molly Gebrian will return to the Jesup Memorial Library (34 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor) for the second concert in the “Music & Conversation” series. Visit www.jesuplibrary.org for more information.

If you’ve ever been in Latin America during the holidays, you know it’s a time for family, friends and parties! Sol y Canto brings that tradition to Mayo Street Arts on Friday, December 12 with a parranda (party)! Rosi, Brian and other members of Sol y Canto will be joined by special guests to invoke the spirit of the Puerto Rican “asalto navideño” (“Christmas Assault”), when the singers drop by your house unannounced to create a party out of thin air, bringing holiday joy to everyone. Sing along to classics from the U.S., Puerto Rico and Latin America (don’t worry – we’ll teach you the words.)
Beloved by generations, Magic of Christmas blends classic carols, contemporary favorites, and a dash of comic surprise. Featuring kaleidoscopic lighting, the mighty Kotzschmar Organ, PSO Children’s Chorus, Magic of Christmas Chorus, the full sound of orchestra, and Maine’s own American Idol star Julia Gagnon - bringing her powerhouse voice home for the holidays - Magic of Christmas is a must-see celebration that ushers in the season like nothing else.
A Christmas concert with “Voce flair”, Lumen blends the ancient and modern with exciting new settings of traditional carols and contemporary original compositions. Lumen opens with bold and percussive arrangements of the late medieval carols Personent Hodie and Gaudete, alternating with clever treatments of the Latin plainchants Veni Emmanuel and Conditor Alme Siderum.
The program continues with distinctive arrangements of well loved (but perhaps lesser known) carols from Germany, Norway, England, and Canada, interspersed with new compositions for Christmas (Sarah Quartel, Jacob Narvarud) and Chanukah (Yoni Fogelman). Lumen concludes with a decidedly Gospel flavor, featuring a new spiritual by Stacey V. Gibbs and an inspired arrangement of Silent Night by J. Donald Dumpson.
We invite you to join us for a Christmas choral experience you won’t soon forget!
