Police Say 2 Fake Officers Surrender

WINTERPORT, Maine - Two Penobscot County men police allege dressed as police officers and stole medical marijuana from a growing operation in Winterport have turned themselves in.

State police say 47-year-old Jeffrey Hurd and 35-year-old Scott Roberts, both of Glenburn, walked into the lobby of the Waldo County Jail in Belfast at about 9 p.m. Wednesday and surrendered.

Both face charges of robbery and impersonating a police officer.

Photos of the robbery a week ago were captured by a surveillance camera. Police say Hurd wore a camouflage hat and held a handgun while Roberts was dressed in a black, tactical-style uniform.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland says investigators know the identity of a third man involved and an arrest warrant for him will likely be issued this week.
