Maine Ex-Prosecutor Sentenced in Child Porn Case

BANGOR, Maine - A former top drug prosecutor in Maine has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison for child pornography and contempt of court charges.

James Cameron was sentenced Wednesday at the U.S. District Court in Bangor. The 52-year-old was a Maine assistant attorney general when he was fired in 2008.

He was convicted in 2010 of 13 counts of child pornography. He was incarcerated for a year before being released on bail pending an appeal. While free on bail, he cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled the state in November 2012. He was arrested in New Mexico the following month.

Cameron's lawyer sought a 6-and-a-half year prison term. Federal sentencing guidelines could have meant a term of more than 30 years. He has served about three years.
